A daily record of gratitude; from quilting to photography to a mix of technology, books, movies and the musings of life!

Welcome to my Blog of my daily gratitude and photo of the day!

Since January 1, 2012, my goal is to write a daily sentence or two (or paragraph or two) about gratitude of the day and to include one photo (at least) that I took that day (but will add others from time to time). It has definitely been a challenge most days throughout the past eight years, and welcomed the challenge again this year - 2020 - Covid and all. I hope you will continue the ride with me!

300,000,000 to the Red Planet

Big news today in space. The Insight journey to Mars has landed and now the fun shall begin with the gathering of data once the instruments are deployed from the unmanned spacecraft. How cool is this? I think super fantastic, really, and it truly boggles the mind for anything to travel 300 million miles and reach its final destination, practically unscathed! That in itself is quite a miracle I'd say.

So a HUGE congratulations is in order and must be "screamed from the rooftops" to all (thousands) of NASA's employees and contractors who made today possible with this unbelievable Red Planet destination. Somehow, I think our lives will forever be changed now that "we've gone beyond our wildest dreams" in getting to Mars, and thankfully, the approximately seven minutes of nail biting to land the Insight is now in the rear view mirror. I heard on the radio that in those almost seven minutes, the spacecraft had to go from traveling at 12, 000 MPH to ZERO to land. That is some marvelous technology and a whole lot of brain power to actually make this whole scenario happen, and with great and happy results for the whole Earth to see and be a witness to a slice of "world" history.

BSoleille! The bright side of a true "twilight zone" on Mars!
