A daily record of gratitude; from quilting to photography to a mix of technology, books, movies and the musings of life!

Welcome to my Blog of my daily gratitude and photo of the day!

Since January 1, 2012, my goal is to write a daily sentence or two (or paragraph or two) about gratitude of the day and to include one photo (at least) that I took that day (but will add others from time to time). It has definitely been a challenge most days throughout the past eight years, and welcomed the challenge again this year - 2020 - Covid and all. I hope you will continue the ride with me!

More Chow

I'm really thinking this trip is all about eating out. It's not all what I thought we would be doing, but meeting up with our families has been great! This morning we started the day with the Tomoff's for breakfast at the Beachcliff in Rocky River, Ohio, then met with my side if the family at Fatheads in North Olmsted. This is a new place for us and back in our old stomping grounds when we lived here for nine years.

The meals were huge (sandwiches) and they have a brewery right on the premises with 14 different beers that was quite festive and interesting.

Eat, Pray, Love.....

Out of the above three, I have been eating my way around Cleveland. For lunch today I headed to a dive bar called the "Caddy Shak" for Lake Erie perch and pierogis with my buddy Debbie, and a Mexican dinner at "Nuevo Acapulco" with the Tomoff and Misencik families.

Since its Easter weekend, I will work on more prayer and love to family and friends. I'm thankful for that!

Bingo!!!

We drove to Cleveland Ohio today and made great time. Not too much traffic but unexpected snow in the PA mountains. Clear travels after getting through that white stuff.

I am most thankful in getting to see my mom in good physical health and spirits. We got to play Bingo with her which is one of her favorite activities.

Technology Today?

I have not posted on any tech stuff lately, but my photo today speaks volumes for nostalgia. Here in 2013 we have iPods, iPads, and iPhones that single handedly can contain thousands of songs and that's just the Apple products. The digital world is huge yet apparently there is a demand for " old fashioned" recordings on vinyl?

Updating the Sewing Room

Let the chaos begin in the morning with the painting of the ceiling and walls. I think it's time (16 years) for a fresh coat of paint. All this activity to welcome my "new to me" (pre owned) long arm Handi-Quilter! (Thanks Mary Nielsen). My other "baby long arm" went to its new home today, and afterwards I spent the rest of the day clearing and cleaning out the much needed space.

Chocolate Basket

In the past few years we have had raffle baskets of various items at our quilt show. The "Chocolate Basket" is a big hit for everyone that comes to the show. My son likes to buy the tickets and judiciously places his tickets into the container(s) of the baskets he is most interested in. As luck would have it, he won this humongous basket of chocolate this year and last! He now needs to buy a lottery ticket and see if he can win big $$$!

A Third Place Ribbon

My quilt entitled, "Someone Else's UFO" garnered a third place beautiful yellow ribbon among stiff competition! I'm thrilled with the entire weekend and a wee bit tired from all the festivities. Since its spring break I just may take a break from my sewing machine for a few days and do some cleaning! Yikes!

The Best Daughter's Birthday

And it's no ordinary birthday when you can blow out 21 candles on the cake! Yes, my daughter Olivia turned the "legal" age today and I'm thankful for that. We will celebrate this wonderful milestone tomorrow with the family as she is taking a short trip home for the occasion (after a JMU women's soccer game at GW). The funny thing is the kids get older but we "never" do! Haha

March Madness

Love those basketball pools and the upsets that make the pools interesting. I had my first 10 games on the money, but those upsets had me tumbling down the hill!

I picked Kansas to win this year! May be a long shot now.

A Top Completed

I'm thankful to have finished another tshirt quilt top. Tomorrow I will quilt it and it will hopefully be in the mail to Chicago, IL by Friday morning. The young man I made it for is strictly a football player now. I think he is going to enjoy a trip down memory lane of his youth sports!

Oops, I Missed A Post

I was not planning on taking yesterday off in posting, I just plumb forgot. All day I was thinking I'd post something on being St. Patrick's Day, or the fact I refereed two soccer games in the afternoon so "The Lady in the Soccer Suit" lives on for another outdoor season, or about my guild-Southern Comforter's Quilt show this coming weekend. But once I climbed into bed and turned on my iPad, I finished up watching a movie and hit that pillow hard. I was out cold in a few minutes I think.

And today I was hoping to write my "forgotten" post but the moment kept slipping away until now - my usual time I post. Whew!

Lancaster Quilt Show

I have been fortunate enough to go to another quilt show in Lancaster, PA with some quilt buddies! The company, quilts and vendors were all fabulous! We even had lunch at an Irish Pub in the downtown area in celebration of St. Patrick's Day weekend.

My photos include my gang: (L-R Shelley, me, Janet McCabe and Susie Stevenson). The other photo is one of my favorite quilts at this show. Kind of different for me since I love color so much and the brighter the better!

Lettuce Chopper

Two summers ago I sliced the tip of my left index finger cutting lettuce with a very sharp knife. My husband had to call an ambulance because I went into shock and the whole nine yards. I got stitched up pretty well but that tip still feels "funny". I have resorted to ripping lettuce but mainly go back to cutting it with a knife.

So last week I saw this lettuce chopper at Target that was marked down. I figured I would try it for less than $7. So I finally used it today and I want to shout from the rooftop that it WORKS and its a fabulous tool!!! I can chop with just one hand. Heck, I would have paid full price ($10) for the ease of cutting lettuce now. Whooohooo no more worries whether I'm going to slice any finger now!

Senior Breakfast

Today it hit me that my kids are "almost" grown up!  The wonderful Senior Breakfast hosted by the parents in the school cafeteria signals the start of all the fun things planned for the two months left of their senior year (and man, can those kids put away the breakfast food).  All the girls were dressed in their finest, and the boys all looked handsome.  It was also great fun seeing some the teachers that taught both of our kids, and yet it was quite sobering to realize we are down the homestretch of high school education.  Bittersweet.

My photos today include the Nantucket Themed soiree!

Lime Green Is The New Neutral

I love the color lime green and I've stated on many occasions its the new neutral. I wear a lot of lime green during the summer and have 2 lime green turtlenecks and one lime green sweater for winter. I never would have pegged my son loving this color as well but he's recently purchased lime green shorts, shoes and shirts and wears them all at the same time. It goes with everything and everybody!

My photo is Ryan with top and bottoms in lime green. Next photo will include the shoes!

Grilling On The Barbie

We tend to BBQ all year round but not this year until today when I made a batch of chicken tenders. Glad to know I had enough kerosene in the tank and those pesky molecules got hot enough to cook the meat!

On a sad note my mom's sister Henrietta passed away today from a long illness. I believe she was 87. She bought me an original Mickey Mouse watch made by the Ingersoll Company when I was six years old. I still have the watch but changed the original band sometime ago. That's a fond memory for sure.

Puppy Visit

The past few days have been spectacular with bright sunshine and a smell of spring and newness in the air. So fittingly a friend brought over her family's new puppy, Daisy! The energy, smell, and cuteness of this little beagle was a wonderful addition to the day. Thankfully my pups became more playful and tried to show Daisy the "ropes" of doggy etiquette. After a good 45 minutes of play and running wild they were all tired and came in to rest.

Referee Recert

Thankfully I passed the USSF Recert Test for 2013, and sat through a 5 hour class today to be the best I can be out there on the pitch! So for another year I will be the lady in the soccer suit at youth games throughout my local area. Big fun really, and I do ignore negative comments from the peanut gallery when my head is in the game. Can't wait to get out there (hopefully next weekend).

Bay Jazz Project

The Oak Ridge Boys were playing tonight at the Annapolis Ram's Head, but the venue right next door, 49 West, had the best with Sean Lane and the Bay Jazz Project. They are soooo good! What a great night out with Lori G. The musicality of the four band members are bar none! If you are local they are a must see sometime this spring or summer so put them on your calendar to do's; you will not be disappointed!

Finishing Quilts

I only have one more quilt to finish before the show which I will do tomorrow. Today I finished "Double Luck" on the "long-arm" and I like how it quilted up and it feels good to the touch. I'm thankful for that!

Home Day

The "no snow" snow day was great with both kids home like in the "old days"! No one rushing to do anything and we all kind of did our own thing (like studying-kids and some sewing for me). Not too often we get days like this. Not too shabby and I'm thankful for that!

Snow or No Snow?

That is the question and a lot of smack talk on the news today. It could happen, no doubt, and except for Sandy winds, Maryland really only encountered one dusting of snow this winter thus far.

Our husky/lab mix Lucy-Loo holds watch in the backyard of the impending storm. (Photo today)
And she usually gets quite antsy but today she was not acting that typical way. Maybe we will just get some rain?

Butternut Squash

For some reason I have eaten more butternut squash in the past three months than I have my entire life. And I love it. I bought the already cut up kind because I am not taking a chance trying to cut up one that's a hard shell!

For five bucks I have enough for several servings! I'm thankful for that.

"Argo"

I did not need too much arm twisting for my husband to sit down with me this evening to watch this years Academy Award winning film, "Argo"! As I mentioned in a previous post, I intend to see all the movies nominated this past year since it was a good year in film. We were not disappointed even though we ultimately knew the outcome, and I highly recommend its viewing.

In With the New

After many years of hodge podge furniture (albeit some new pieces) a brand new spanking living room sofa and loveseat was delivered at 9am sharp today. It feels good and looks nice too. I can't wait to take a nap on the sofa because as I shopped around, it was all about the nap and what felt best for a late afternoon siesta!

Out With the Old

A changing of the guard with my living room furniture. It was given to me by a neighbor, used for several years, and now I I donated the set to another local family through Freecycle. A win-win for all. Tomorrow my new set will be delivered and I'm thankful for that!
