A daily record of gratitude; from quilting to photography to a mix of technology, books, movies and the musings of life!

Welcome to my Blog of my daily gratitude and photo of the day!

Since January 1, 2012, my goal is to write a daily sentence or two (or paragraph or two) about gratitude of the day and to include one photo (at least) that I took that day (but will add others from time to time). It has definitely been a challenge most days throughout the past eight years, and welcomed the challenge again this year - 2020 - Covid and all. I hope you will continue the ride with me!

Sealed with an Elephant Kiss!

Today we visited The Elephant/Monkey Sanctuary in Hartbeespoort Dam, about an hours drive from Johannesburg. Two "tame" elephants (of about the dozen they have there) are calm enough (bribed with food, of course) for people to pet them. And, if you so desire, be kissed by Timbo (the male). It's Valentine's Week, so I figured I'd go for the sloppy muddy suction kiss on the cheek! Touching this majestic beast was awe inspiring and borderline spiritual. But it did not stop there. The tour included "holding hand to trunk" and going for a walk. Very cool indeed!

The monkey side of the sanctuary harbors lots of different kinds of monkeys given up to them by previous owners.  Once many of them reach maturity (four years old or so), they become very possessive of their owners (especially the females of a home). They were also very stinking cute!

BSoleille! The bright side of a kiss to remember, elephant style!
