I am not sure on the life of a "checked bag size" suitcase, but the one I have traveled with for the past 15 years had its last trip this week. This precious inanimate object has been near and dear to my heart, and fell apart on me once it was fully packed before Christmas. A couple "needed" zippers had their last zip, and the handle broke in two places, but since we were driving, I was able to gingerly maneuver the bag and give it a prominent place in the back seat of the vehicle!
Thankfully, there is even new "technology" in suitcases since 2000, like four wheels and super duper lightweights (4 or 5 lbs). I will be on the hunt for that perfect piece of luggage in the new year!
