Giddy up and get them horses ready! Road Trip and a wedding coming right up. There is joy in “moving about the cabin” nowadays. It has to be like a butterfly coming out of its cocoon. Free to fly. Oh, not a flight for us yet…but a genuine, bonafide car trip to New Jersey/New York.
Since I95 will probably be a mess getting to the Verrazano Bridge (and out to Long Island for the wedding) this holiday weekend, Bill, and I decided that we will go up one day early. Bill made reservations at our favorite Italian Restaurant – Enzzos Trattoria in Short Hills, NJ.
Chef Enzzo and his wife, Perri, are the one-two punch of feeding their fans of Chef Enzzo’s mouth-watering delectables for the last 27 years. I am salivating as I write this and won’t be able to decide on a meal until I am there later today to see what strikes me as we walk through the door. The food is divine, almost spiritual in a foodie kind of way. And I don’t often talk like that regarding food. I do for this place.
Every time we go, I cannot get this Billy Joel tune out of my head. “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant”
A bottle of white, a bottle of red
Perhaps a bottle of rose instead
We’ll get a table near the street
In our old familiar place
You and I, face to face
Of course, Mr. Joel, being the songwriter he is, wrote this song on a napkin. He wrote it in regards to a Manhattan Italian Restaurant (located across Carnegie Hall but no longer), but the sentiments in the first stanza are what floats in and out of my head and remain true in my heart.
Cheers to those who may go to a restaurant this weekend too - maybe even your favorite! Every Mom and Pop establishment will be happy you crossed the threshold, keeping them in business. I can confidently say, Chef Enzzo will be manufacturing sunshine for us with his pasta today!
BSoleille!
Terri
