Not Following the Pattern

I know there are planners out there, and those folks may choose to follow the "pattern" or "path" in whatever they are doing. And that is all good and fine. For quilters, following a pattern is usually key for something to "turn out right."  Or not, as in not following a pattern. We call that, "winging" it, or making up the "rules" or "measurements" as the piece grows to whatever size we think it should be.

For some reason, a few of us on retreat resorted to "winging it" (including me) on a few quilts made this weekend, and they all turned out just fine (and you would never know it otherwise save for this post!). Karen Todd made a baby quilt that was inspired by what another quilting friend showed her. Pat Scully made wall-hanging for a "fence" beside her nephew's pool, all "wung" (yes, that is made up vernacular in our little world of West River quilting!) with the greatest intentions of a giving these quilts to family and friends. Of course, patterns were also used (we all juggle multiple projects that most definitely need them), and then when the item in completed, we are thankful they finish beautifully with or without using a pattern....

BSoleille!
